The day you were born on plays ritually into everyday life in Thai culture. I have been coming to this country for over forty years now yet never understood this until this trip.
With the coronation of the new king happening this month, YELLOW was expected everywhere, on everyone, in every ad and billboard. As soon as I arrived you could see yellow flags and fabric stretched around every government building and Buddhist temples. Everyone wore yellow shirts. I started to ask people why this was happening.
King Rama X was born on a Monday.
Specific colors of each day depend on astrological rules influenced by Hindu mythology. It is based on the color of the God who protects the day.
When I discovered this information I started seeing the symbolism everywhere. Candles in every color, glass statues of Buddha in every color, clothes of every color, hats, scarves, shoes, glasses.
Though this has gone out of fashion somewhat, people still know the color of the day they were born. Many still play into these colors and use them in ritualistic, daily life.
It is your lucky color.

PS – I still don’t understand why Wednesday doubles down.
Born on a Saturday. Purple is my lucky color and green is my unlucky color. I never wear purple but I often wear green. Maybe that explains what’s been going wrong all this time. Hmm.
I think that if you dye your hair black it will solve everything.
This was Fun! Found out I was born on a Thursday!
Friday… So I guess I only have a lucky color since black isn’t a color as it absorbs all of the visible spectrum of light so that none is reflected to the eyes.

I was born on a Sunday 🙂 Red is my color and Blue my unlucky color….Blue is my favorite color – I may have to further investigate how this has played into my life…. hahaha…..Hmmmm
